Last week on Saturday we went to go see a play based on Sindiwe Magona’s book, which was loosley based on the Amy Biehl story. The play is called Mother to Mother and its a one-woman show starring the magical Thembi Mtshali-Jones

For me there is nothing better than being in a theatre and watching things unfold right before your eyes. There is no rewinding, no munching of popcorn or special effects. It’s just you and the people on stage. The last play I went to see was ‘Under the fig tree’ earlier this year, so I was ready for another dose of amazing theatre.
What I got, however, was something much more. It turned out to be an emtional roller coaster. Thembi Mtshali-Jones transformed from the graceful modern woman that she is, to a mother who was faced with the horrific crime that her son commited (killing another womans child). The character goes through the shock, shame and anger that any parent would have. The play is about a mother preparing herself to meet the mother of the child that her son has killed.
I cried, laughed and saw our (South African) history through the eyes of the mothers, who rarely ever get heard. Such an amazing play and what a performer!!

I love the theatre, I really get involved (and emotional) when I watch a play. This was a very intense play for me. I really saw the history of our country play itself out, right there in the tiny theater. I have to say that when it was done I was filled with a lot anger and yes I will explain why I was angry.
At first I thought I was angry about what apartheid did to black people, it took mothers away from their children to go work as nannies and cleaners. But really I was angry at human kind!
Question why people do horrid this to each other. There’s supposed to be a difference between us and “animals”. How could we not realise what we were and still are doing to each… putting each other through? We are so angry at whatever that innocent people die for what?!!!
Like I told Sista Riotous 2,when people watch plays they walk out different emotions. I don’t think the play was writen to invoke anger but that is what I walked out with. It was really a brilliant play.
Sindiwe Magona and Thembi Mtshali-Jones are both wonderful women. Thembi held my attention through out the play. She is an incredible actress. I really recomend that you go watch a this play.
Mother to Mother is on at the Baxter until October 10. Go see it
Once a week we find ourselves missing things from our childhood or things that amde us go “Yeeeessss” from way back when. This is why we have Throwback Thursday. Sista Riotous 1 is a long time lover of hip hop so todays selection is from her…
“Dave the dope fiend, shooting dope, who dont know the meaning of water nor soap”
To the man who made us all feel like women before we knew what being a woman was all about. To the one who made dancing white men cool, way before ’strictly come dancing’ & a little after John Travolta. Thank you for your sweet smile (To Wong Foo…) and we will never forget “Nobody puts baby in a corner” and mostly thank you for sharing your life with us.

I will start off by saying that I’m not really sure how to label taxi violence’s music. I don’t believe in labels and all that restrictive shit, so that works for me.
I got my hands on their latest album ‘The Turn’ almost a week ago and have been meaning to listen to it, but only got around it today. The first 3 tracks did nothing for me and I believe the album really starts happening when the song ‘Devil ‘n Pistol’ starts. The energy of the song had me going fo sho! ‘What would you do if the devil came for you, cam e knocking on your door on the sixth of june’.
There are a few tracks that did nothing for me, but the ones that did do something for me made me glad that I had my hands on this album. I won’t lie I prefer to hear these guys play unplugged, just because I do.
The whole album has a dirty feel to it. It makes me feel like I should be wearing all-black-everything (ala El Presidente) in the back of a biker bar sipping on my whiskey watching Taxi play EFF out of the songs. Yessir! So I think if you don’t mind getting a little dirty then get your hands on this album. This is good hard rock, straight no chaser.

Where do I start?
I have to be honest, I was never a Taxi fan but I knew of them. The first time I heard their music was at unplugged gig they had at Mercury and from then on I paid attention. So when I got my hands on their new album “The Turn”, I was very excited.
This album made want to go out and go dancing or bob my head at least. I think ‘Venus Fly Trap’ sets the scene for me, listening to it made me wish it was Saturday night so I could go out! There are some tracks at the beginning of the album that I’m not completely feeling but one must persevere.
The “Devil ‘n Pistol” and “Hold ‘Em or Fold ‘Em” made me want to be the high priestess of the Taxi Violence cult. The album does need for you to listen it a few times before really appreciating it.
Conclusion give it a chance, there are some great tracks!!!
PS- We think the boys looks absolutely dashing in their own dirt taxi way LOBAO
